Visual History |
Diversity in the visual arts is not
only important for reasons of inclusion, but also for the cause of cultural
growth and understanding. Our racial differences in society are also present in
out creative sector. Although the creative/artistic community has historically
been more open and accepting of people regardless of race, religion or sexual
orientation, there is still segregation and omission in the arts. Oklahoma has
shown signs of growth and progression in addressing the lack of participation in
the main arts community by artists of color. The situation is improving through
initiatives such as Inclusion in Art. By providing minority artists resources
and opportunities, we are also helping our art community grow through exposure
to these artists. It is mutually beneficial for those institutions of the arts
who want to be more inclusive and the artists who are looking to contribute
their gift of creating..
