CIPHER AT IAO GALLERY BRINGS HIP HOP AND ART TOGETHER

APRIL 20TH, 2012

CIPHER  sees a successful opening at IAO Gallery. In its second presentation CIPHER exposed Oklahomans to a diverse selection of artists whose work focused on Hip Hop lyricism. Working in different mediums, artists were encouraged to create art that was inspired by the poetry of Hip Hop. Performing artists were also a part of the presentation and their work added a welcomed dimension to the exhibition. Anchored by two legendary figures in Oklahoma music (DJ Mass & DJ Dee Rock), the exhibition also saw stand out performances by hip artist/activist Reality, Grip Record's lyricist C.J. and many more! CIPHER will be on display until May 5, 2012.

The performing artists at CIPHER ensured that the event was memorable.

Lee passes by the group of enthused artists as they form their own circle of creativity. Not only were the emcees and lyricists creating "ciphers", the visual artists took a cue and got involved.

January 12, 2012 marked Inclusion in Art's most successful event to date. Afro-Americana featured the work of some of Oklahoma's best known African American artists and some newly discovered gems as well. The event was attended by some of the city's most prominent people. Afro-Americana introduced Oklahoma to artists such as Betty Refour, Albert Bostick, Alex Kathilu, and many more. With over 300 attending Gaylord Pickens Heritage Museum, the opening demonstrated the desire for events that are inclusive of artists of color. The opening was the largest in the history of Gaylord-Pickens Heritage Museum.
