INCLUSION IN ART

Racial Diversity in the Visual Arts

Mentoring for emerging artists and youth artists is important for several reasons. First, it gives aspiring visual artists the opportunity to  to grow in safety. They can work one on one with established visual artists to learn how to further their careers, create more consistent work and gain the confidence they need to go forward with their endeavors. Another reason that art mentoring is important especially with the youth, is to keep young creative spirits alive. Many young artists never realize their potential because they receive no support for their vision. Even parents sometime become catalysts in undermining the creative expression of talented teens. Many of these parents don't realize there are scholarships for the visual arts. The arts are just as effective of a medium as sports in getting a young person to college. This practical application is something many parents never consider. The mentoring that young adults receive in CAVA isn't just to create better artists, but to develop productive people who realize all of their options in moving ahead in life.
